How do I join?

If you'd like to join Singles Golf of Rochester, refer to the above link.

Where do you play?

We play golf all over the Rochester area.  Take a look at our Event Calendar.  You'll see where we plan to go and where we've been.

What kind of people are in the group?  I mean, are there more men than women?  What are the ages of people in the group?

The mix of our membership is close to 50/50.

Membership is open to anyone 21 and over, but most of our members are older; all we care about is that you're single!

Are you a league?

No.  So there is no obligation to show up every week, we don't keep track of your scores, and we don't keep your handicap.

Here are some guidelines we follow when playing:  Our 18-hole events are usually stroke play, and each person plays their own ball.  Our 9-hole events often are scrambles or shambles or best balls, etc.

Also, to speed play, please limit the number of strokes to double the par for each hole.  That is "6" strokes for a par 3 hole, "8" for a par 4, and "10" for a par 5.  Pick up your ball once you've reached those respective numbers of strokes.

What kind of players are in the group?

Most are average players with a fairly high handicap, but there are some beginners, and a few with a low handicap.

How do you pair off at an event?

We go off in sets of 4, of course, and we try to make it 2 men and 2 women if possible.  Please note that we don't honor requests to be paired with certain people.

Many times those who want will dine at the course or a nearby restaurant after we play.

Is it just golf?

No, we do other things too.  Remember, you're in Rochester -- so there's two seasons: there's wintertime... and then there's golf season.

So in the darker, colder times of the year, we also have social events.  We have Happy Hour Events, Euchre tournaments, Monthly Meetings, Superbowl Parties, cookouts, Amerks games, wine tastings, we go Swing Dancing... get the picture?

Playing 18 holes is too much for me.  Can I just play 9?

Usually you will have both options.  Those who play 9 holes will usually start about 2 to 2 1/2 hours later than those playing 18 so we all finish at about the same time.

What about dinner?

We usually have a dinner or lunch, or whatever else planned for afterwards.  We won't make you stay if you can't!  Sometimes the price of dinner is included in the event; the menu will be specified in the event description if this is true.  Please check the event listing for details.

What if it rains?

Each course has its own raincheck policy.  If the course is closed because of poor playing conditions, or we call off the event for the same kind of reason, we'll may meet for a Happy Hour event instead.

How do I contact other members of SGR?

There are two methods to contact other members of the group.  Click here for a brief explanation.
